One of the latest additions to the SUNSAIL fleet, the SUNSAIL 46, is a customized version of the Best European Family Cruiser of the Year 2019, the Oceanis 46.1: is it therefore better than the best? Read on and find out why we believe it is…
Let us introduce you to a brand-new member of the SUNSAIL fleet: the new SUNSAIL 46. This beautifully elegant new boat is in fact a customized version of Bénéteau’s Oceanis 46.1, designed by Pascal Conq (Naval Architect) and Nauta Design (Deck and Interior Design) and which was awarded the Best Sailing Family Cruiser Award at the European Yacht of The Year 2019 at the Flagship Night of Boot Dusseldorf. It incorporates the best features of the Oceanis 45 and 51.1 to form a canny, up-dated, mix. Let’s look closer at why we think the SUNSAIL 46 is the perfect family cruiser, even better than the original award-winning version, based on its three main strong points: comfort and well-being, safety and ease of use and, last but not least, performance and equipment.
Comfort and well-being
Families essentially need boats designed to help them relax enjoy themselves on a family cruising holidays. Due its size and design, notably the chined hull and wide aft beam, the SUNSAIL 46 has plenty of space both inside and out. Owners will particularly appreciate the expansive, state-of-the-art master suite at the fore with its giant double bed, accessible from either side, and separate shower and head. Their guests will be impressed to have their own dedicated bathrooms, as the SUNSAIL 46 is a 3 cabins/3 bathrooms version. The lounging area and galley are light, spacious and airy, too. Outside, the cockpit is equally voluminous, allowing crew and guests plenty of room not only to steer and manoeuvre or to lounge and dine but also easy access to the leisure area at the aft. Here we find a motorized drop-down swim platform, diving ladder and swing out bbq grill. Perfect for a wonderful cruising holiday with friends and family.
Safety and ease of use
Numerous features have been incorporated into this version of the boat to enhance safety and facilitate manoeuvres even with reduced crews. All the lines lead back into the enormous cockpit with its two helms and three electric winches. By the starboard helm, the skipper can control the electric windlass and bow thruster. This version is equipped with the powerful 57 HP engine and the shallower 1.75 keel, making it safer and easier to moor in secluded coves or small harbours. Transferring passengers on land is made easier thanks to the crafty telescopic davits which make lowering and hoisting the dinghy child’s play.
Performance and equipment
As you can imagine, the design of the hull and the two rudders considerably enhance the performance, particularly while sailing into the wind. Furthermore, SUNSAIL have added high quality sails (as well as a customized bimini, dodger and lazy bag) to ensure long life and resistance to wear and tear. It should be noted that the boats are all more than fully equipped both in the galley and with safety equipment, which means that the boats are “shipshape and Bristol-fashion” and therefore ready to take to the sea as soon as the lucky new owner steps on board and turns on the engine.
So, better than the best? We firmly believe so. And, given the deal that SUNSAIL is offering to its customers, certainly the best value for money in its category on the market today.
